Woman Dies in Early Morning Rollover

A 34-year-old woman is dead after her car was hit from behind on Route 3 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, early Sunday morning.

Massachusetts State Police say around 1:30 a.m. the woman was driving a Mercury Mountaineer north of Route 495 when she was struck by a man driving a Jeep Liberty.

The impact caused the Mercury to rollover, ejecting the driver and two female passengers.

The woman driving the Mercury was pronounced dead at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. One of the female passengers, whose age is unknown, was also taken to Lahey in critical condition. The second passenger, a 27-year-old woman, was taken to Tufts Medical Center in Boston with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. A third passenger in the Mercury, a 31-year-old man, was treated for minor injuries at Lowell General Hospital.

The 45-year-old man driving the Jeep was taken to Tufts Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Route 3 was closed for about four and a half hours, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.
