Woman Drowns in Dangerous Swimming Hole

Police in Richmond, Vermont, have recovered the woman's body

A woman has drowned in the Huntington Gorge, which Vermont authorities say is the deadliest spot for water fatalities among the state's lakes and rivers.

Police on Monday recovered the body of the swimmer who went missing in the gorge in Richmond on Sunday.

State police were called to the area about 6:40 p.m.

The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Elaine Santor of Milton.

The Vermont Health Department says nearly 100 people have drowned since 1985 in natural settings in Vermont, including 15 deaths at the gorge as of last month.
