Woman Found Dead in Rhode Island Fire Pit Identified

Police have released the name of the woman who was found dead in a West Kingston, Rhode Island, fire pit this past weekend.

The state medical examiner identified the woman as 63-year-old Carol Reed on Monday.

South Kingstown police responded to a call Sunday around 1 p.m. that a woman had fallen into a fire pit.

Officers and firefighters found Reed in the backyard after she had already been pulled from the flames.

Preliminary reports indicate that Reed, who had been burning leaves and brush, may have suffered a medical emergency before falling. It was determined that Reed had only been in the fire a short time.

An investigation is ongoing, but police say there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
