Woman Missing From Attleboro Nursing Home Found Safe

An elderly woman who went missing from her nursing home in Attleboro, Massachusetts, has been found in Braintree.

According to police, Dorothy Lucas, 73, left the assisted living facility where she lives on George Street in Attleboro around 1:40 p.m. Saturday. Police were notified of her disappearance around 10:30 p.m. when she failed to return.

Police said Lucas checked herself out of the facility and left in the company of 51-year-old Mark Chicoine of Attleboro. Chicoine reportedly befriended Lucas while he was visiting another resident at the nursing home.

On Monday afternoon, police said Lucas and Chicoine had been spotted by a South Shore Plaza mall employee, who notified nearby officers.

Authorities said they were investigating Chicoine's involvement with Lucas being missing but have not charged him with anything. He is cooperating with police.

Lucas is wheelchair bound with very little mobility. She is diabetic and dependent on insulin, and had left the home without her medication. She also suffers from symptoms of dementia.

After she was located, Lucas was taken to a Braintree area hospital to receive treatment and medications for her medical conditions.

Police had said Lucas and Chicoine were seen together at 2:42 p.m. on Saturday at the Santander Bank on Park Street in Attleboro, where she withdrew an undisclosed amount of money.

A silver alert had been issued for Lucas on Sunday night. The withdrawal of money had investigators concerned about the potential that she was being financially exploited.
