A woman brandishing a hatchet robbed a 7-Eleven store in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Tuesday morning before being arrested by a police officer who happened to be in the area, authorities said.
Surveillance footage shows a woman, identified by Weymouth police as Sherry Colby, 48, raise the hatchet at a clerk before reaching over the counter and grabbing money from the register, according to the police report.
She was allegedly wearing a pink hooded sweatshirt tied so it concealed her face.
Colby entered the store on North Street and asked for scratch tickets, the clerk told police. But when he turned around to give them to her, Colby showed him the hatchet and told him to open the cash drawer, according to the report.
As she was grabbing the money, Colby allegedly said, "I need money for rent."
An officer was patrolling the area when he saw a Jeep Cherokee speed out of the parking lot, police said. When the officer pulled the vehicle over, the driver told him the store was being held up.
Colby allegedly threw down the hatchet and fled when the clerk told her police had arrived. The employee came out of the store and pointed at Colby, who had left the building, police said.

Colby allegedly ran behind the store, according to the police report. As the officer chased Colby, police were alerted that the store's hold-up alarm had been activated.
Colby was eventually detained by a second officer who had responded to the incident.
Police seized $13 dollars in cash from Colby and recovered the hatchet from the store.
Police found an abandoned vehicle in the area and went to the house of the owner. The owner said Colby was staying at the house after having a fight with her boyfriend.
Colby was charged with armed assault to rob, assault with a dangerous weapon and receiving a stolen vehicle, among other charges.
Colby was being held without bail as of Tuesday evening.
