Woman Hit by Bus in Rhode Island

The extent of her injuries was not immediately known

A woman has been hit by a bus as she was crossing a Providence, Rhode Island, street.

A spokeswoman for the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority says it happened around 8:40 a.m. Monday in the city's Wayland Square neighborhood.

She says the bus was turning at an intersection when it hit the 56-year-old woman.

The spokeswoman says she did not immediately know the extent of the woman's injuries. The woman was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital. The bus driver has worked for RIPTA since 1993.

A RIPTA bus struck and killed a federal court security officer as he crossed a street in May.
