Grandmother Injured When Tire Flies Off Car on I-95

A Massachusetts grandmother was injured Thursday when a tire flew off another car and crashed through her windshield on Interstate 95.

Sixty-nine-year-old Linda Foster of Revere was driving home from work around 2 p.m. She was on I-95 northbound in Lynnfield when the wheel came off a Nissan Altima, over the median and into her Toyota Camry.

"We're grateful that she's OK, but she'll probably never want to drive again," said Melissa Silva, the victim's granddaughter.

State police say the Altima was driven by a 28-year-old East Boston woman.

"She just saw the tire coming at her and she just stopped. Came to a dead stop on the highway," Silva said. "Luckily, no one hit her from behind, too."

Foster was too tired to talk after returning home from the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She has some bumps and bruises, but will be OK.

In the tow yard, on the Altima, there were other wheels lacking lug nuts.

"I don't know what she was thinking, driving on the highway like that," Silva said. "In the fast lane, to boot."

No charges have been filed. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
