Police in Bristol, Vermont, are investigating after a woman was shot by an officer responding to a report of a man experiencing a mental health crisis Thursday night.
Officers responded to a residence on Pine Street at 8:30 and heard what they believed to be a gun shot. Troopers from Vermont State Police joined for assistance.
While on scene, officers were approached by a woman armed with a hand gun.
After multiple commands to drop the weapon a trooper shot the woman, injuring her.
Police then found an adult male lying on the ground with a head injury from an apparent gun shot.
Both the man and woman were transported to Fletcher Allen Health care in Burlington for treatment. Neither of them have been identified, pending the investigation.
The trooper involved in the shooting will not be identified at this time and was placed on administrative leave with pay, per policy.
Police are expected to release more information Friday.
