A woman has been hit by a parade float in Rhode Island at the nation's oldest continuous Fourth of July celebration.
WJAR-TV reports the woman was struck and dragged by a float at the parade in Bristol on Tuesday.
Bystanders say the woman was pinned under the float. Police tell the TV station an investigation is underway.
Witnesses say people at the parade helped lift the float off the woman, who has been taken to a hospital.
Bristol's July Fourth parade was established in 1785 and is billed as the oldest continuous celebration of independence in the country. The parade in the seaside town attracts about 100,000 people in a typical year.
