Woman Struck by 3 Vehicles, Killed While Crossing Turnpike

Witnesses say the woman, who police believe is from New York, was on her cell phone as she attempted to cross the highway

Maine State Police say a woman was struck by at least three vehicles and killed as she was crossing the Maine Turnpike on foot Wednesday night.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. at the Kennebunk service plazas.

Witnesses say the woman, identified as 37-year-old Kelly Gentio, of Cairo, New York, was on her cell phone as she attempted to cross six lanes on the highway.

The driver of the truck that struck her, 59-year-old Christopher Manos, of Lincoln, called 911 immediately. Two other vehicles likely ran over her body. Police believe she died immediately after she was struck by the truck.

Police say the woman was with her husband, 38-year-old Marco Gentio, who is a truck driver.

He was sleeping in the cab of his tractor-trailer in the service plaza parking lot when the incident occurred.

The couple had delivered items to Lewiston and Medway before pulling into the southbound plaza around 6 p.m.

Marco received a summons for violating a protection order that had been filed against him by his wife.

He returned to his home early Thursday to be with his and his wife's three children.
