Youth Tennis Coach Arrested on Child Pornography Charges in Newport, Rhode Island

Thomas E. Gallagher, 75, of Newport, was released on $50,000 personal recognizance with special bail conditions

A youth tennis instructor has been arraigned on child pornography charges, Rhode Island State Police say.

Thomas E. Gallagher, 75, of Newport, was arrested Friday and charged with possession of child pornography after an investigation by the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Gallagher was arraigned at Second Division District Court and released on $50,000 personal recognizance with special bail conditions of no internet access and no contact with minors.

For the past 15 years, Gallagher has been a tennis instructor at the Spouting Rock Beach Association, also known as Bailey’s Beach Club.

Prior to that, from 1997 until 2004, Gallagher was a substitute teacher and part-time youth tennis coach at Saint Michael’s Country Day School in Newport.

He was also previously employed as a youth tennis coach for the Newport Recreation Department.
