Convicted Killer Admits to 1992 Murder of Mass. Teenager

(NECN: Brian Burnell) - Authorities are set to search a pond on Tuesday after announcing a serial killer behind bars admitted to killing a 16-year-old Westfield, Mass. boy who disappeared in 1992.

"Anybody that knows me knows I talk about this, I think about this every day," Jennifer Nowak, sister of Jamie Lusher, said.

Nowak talked again on Monday about her brother. He left his Westfield home on his way to his grandmother's house - and disappeared. His bike was found in the woods but Jamie was never seen again.

That was November 6, 1992. Now, more than 20 years later, there's been a break in the case.

"We are identifying Lewis Lent as the person who abducted and murdered Jamie Lusher," Hampden County DA Mark Mastroianni said.

Lewis Lent is serving life without parole for killing two children. Mastroianni says Lent agreed to talk to investigators and give details of Jamie Lusher's murder if he would not be prosecuted for it. The DA agreed to help bring closure to a family that has never forgotten.

"My brother Jamie was a unique individual. He was kind of like a little spark that if you didn't catch it right you, then you missed something awesome. He loved pets and he loved his dog. He loved to get dirty and anything that involved getting dirty. Dirt bikes, mud bombs and monster trucks. He loved to ride his bike all over," Nowak said.

Jamie's father said the boy's late mother went to psychic's and did interviews to keep the case alive.

"It kept her going with that small hope or whatever. To this day, I don't remember who I was telling, when I see a young kid on a bike I will instinctively look back," James Lusher, Jamie's father, said.

Authorities will search a pond in Becket on Tuesday looking for Jamie Lusher's remains.
