Ex-Boyfriend of Woman Shot in Driveway Arrested in Conn.

(NECN: Brian Burnell) - 32-year-old Anthony DeJoseph the third of Wolcott, Connecticut is in the Waterbury police lockup but not because of the murder-for-hire plot in which he is the prime suspect.  Another violent crime has landed him in trouble here.

Lt. Christopher Corbett, Waterbury CT PD: "A man named Anthony DeJoseph from Wolcott had assaulted another man in a bar on St. Patrick's Day night.  He had struck him across the face with a beer bottle, knocking him unconscious, cutting open his lower lip and chin."

DeJoseph is charged with assault in that case.  On Tuesday night his former girlfriend, 31-year-old Marybeth Banks was shot several times as she sat in her car in her parents Pembroke, Massachusetts driveway.  A man from Bridgeport, Connecticut... 25-year-old Dorian Membreno... is charged with shooting her.  But he has reportedly told investigators that DeJoseph hired him to kill Banks.

Lt. Christopher Corbett, Waterbury CT PD: "We were informed on Wednesday from Pembroke, Massachusetts that this man is also a suspect of a murder for hire plot which occurred Tuesday night in Massachusetts.  He is being held here in Connecticut on 2-point-25-million dollars bond for a variety of charges."

Police from Massachusetts have been to Waterbury to talk to DeJoseph. In the meantime officers from Wolcott and Waterbury searched DeJoseph's home where they found guns.  Because he is yet to be charged in Massachusetts extradition has not begun.  But he isn't going anywhere.

Lt. Christopher Corbett, Waterbury CT PD: "We have him on a variety of charges here in Connecticut.  In Waterbury on assault-2 charges for striking the other man with a bottle, Wolcott has criminal possession of firearm charges on him because he had 8 firearms in his home in violation of a protective order and in addition we have narcotic charges on him."
