Gary Lee Sampson Seeks New Trial in Death Penalty Case

(NECN: Brad Puffer, Boston, Mass.) - Lawyers for a Massachusetts man convicted of killing three people in a weeklong crime spree are asking for a new trial.

Gary Lee Sampson's lawyers say he deserves a new trial because his old lawyers were ineffective.

Sampson was sentenced to death in the killings of three people in Massachusetts and New Hampshire in 2001.

Sampson plead guilty to the murders of 68-year-old Philip McCloskey, 19-year-old Jonathan Rizzo and 58-year-old Robert Whitney.
