Heavy Rains Wash Out Rail Bed Along Green Line in Newton, Massachusetts

(NECN: Scot Yount, Newton, Mass.) - More than 10 inches of rain has fallen in the Boston area in the last 72 hours.

Three days of relentless rain threatened to overwhelm the Boston-area sewer system, forcing a controlled release of raw sewage into Boston Harbor.

In Newton, Massachusetts, an enormous section of a railway bed washed away in the storm, creating a major impact on the Green Line service. There is no word on how long it will take to fix it, but the rain needs to stop and the water needs to stop flowing before authorities can even begin to fix it.

It is the D branch of the Green Line between Chestnut Hill and Newton Center. It will probably be shut down for several days.
