Horizons for Homeless Children Trains Thousands of Volunteers

(NECN) - Homeless children are a huge problem in this country, with 1.6 million kids without a home. You can help by supporting our Horizons for Homeless children week. NECN is teaming up with Horizons to raise money.

We are talking with Yolanda Coentro, chief operating officer at Horizons for Homeless children.

Horizons for Homeless Children is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of young homeless children in Massachusetts by ensuring that they are prepared for school success. They provide high-quality early education, opportunities for play, and comprehensive family support services. They serve 3,000 homeless children each week through early education centers, shelter-based Playspaces, and their Family Partnership Program.

Coentro says they have about 1500 active volunteers annually, and they’ve trained 14,000 volunteers since 2003.

The return on the investment is so great.
