Money Saving Mondays: Bathroom Upgrade

(NECN) - It's one of the most important rooms in your home, so how you can you make the very most of a bathroom upgrade for under a hundred bucks?

Our Leslie Gaydos is here to show us why throwing away an old piece of furniture is like tossing money.

They tell you if you upgrade your bathroom, it brings up the value of your house. So, it’s great room to renovate but it can be very expensive.

But even if you have under $100 and some time, you can change your bathroom.

How do you transform a dated bathroom for under $100?
Paint.

“Absolutely the biggest bang for your buck…you can bring a 1980s bathroom into 2013 just by painting it all white,” says Linda Holt, an interior designer who painted her own bathroom and blogged about it.

She says white is timeless and it’s the hottest thing in interior design right now.

Holt says generally two coats of primer are recommended. Once you let primer thoroughly dry, do two coats of paint. She also says let it dry at least an hour between each primer coat and you do want to lightly sand between each coat.

Holt also says to change out dated, shiny brass handles with something updated like brush iron, brush nickel or steel.

This project can save you a lot of money. Replacing your vanity can cost upward of $800.
If you have any questions, you can talk to someone at a hardware store.
