(NECN: Kirsten Caira, Littleton, Mass.) - Communities across Massachusetts Sunday night were bracing for more potential flooding, especially in Littleton, where some have already been urged to evacuate.
The problem rests beneath a stretch of Route 119, which is now closed. A crushed culvert caused major flooding to homes on the Littleton-Ayer line.
"We've come across some bad luck on this entire repair," Littleton Fire Chief Stephen Carter said. "These crews have been working feverishly and they keep coming across different things that have got in the way and have slowed down their progress."
Instead of repairing part of the culvert, a new one must now be installed. The project was expected to be completed before the rain started, but will now take days.
"At three to six inches over this period of time, it's a lot of water in an already saturated environment, so we're going to have some problems," Gov. Deval Patrick (D-Mass.) said.

The governor met with emergency officials to prepare for the next dousing. Some in the neighborhood who have been asked to evacuate followed that suggestion, but others have decided to stay in their homes.
