New England Starts to Dig Out

(NECN: Jennifer Eagan) - Schools are closed in many other communities this morning around Massachusetts and New England.

Utility crews are also working to repair several thousand outages in Massachusetts. In East Bridgewater, the total number of outages was around 9,000. According to National Grid this morning, it significantly decreased to around a hundred.

At the high school, a fire started in the generator room, and flames spread to the insulation in the roof. Firefighters were able to contain it to that room. The fire department says it is under investigation, but the generator may have overheated.

The high school is closed today. All other schools in the district have a one hour delay.

Around the rest of New England, while the main highways have been plowed, there are still many secondary roads packed with snow. Snow plows and sanders will be working throughout the day to clear out the snow so travel becomes more manageable.
