RI School Closes for a Week to Control Illness

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (AP) - An elite private high school in Rhode
Island has shut down for a week after a suspected outbreak of the
norovirus.

Officials at St. George's School in Middletown say they decided
to suspend classes and activities for a week after four students
showed up at the health center late last week with vomiting and
diarrhea. By Monday, 36 students and 11 staff members had fallen
ill.

Most of the school's 365 students are boarders and have been
asked to return home for the week or spend the time with a host
family. The school is scheduled to reopen dormitories on Friday and
resume classes on Saturday.

Head of School Eric Peterson says crews will spend the week
disinfecting the school.
