R.I. Gets Ready for Irene

(NECN: Tom Langford, Narragansett Beach, RI) - As waves build on Narragansett Beach in Rhode Island, life guards practice a rescue, and they hope they won't be doing this for real over the weekend.

With Hurricane Irene churning up the ocean, rip currents and strong waves are becoming a growing danger, and swimmers and surfers should use extreme caution.

You also don't want to take any chances with your boat.

Narragansett's harbormaster says, if you can, take it out of the water.

You don't want to wait too long, and put yourself at risk as the storm approaches.

With that said, once the storm arrives, resist the urge to go down by the ocean, stand on a rock and gawk at the waves.
