(TV Diner) - The menu at Kon Asian Bistro offers a masterful blend of Asian fusion cuisine, whether it's sushi, or shrimp shumai, Kon Asian has it all! Asian restaurants abound in just about every city and town, but now and then one in particular rises to the top. Kon Asian Bistro in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, is one of those special places. The lounge area is oh-so-hip with a bright yellow bar that seems to glow. Voluminous orange lights hang in the main dining area, built around a massive statue of Buddha. You have your choice of settings -- in comfortable padded booths, at black lacquered tables, at the sushi bar, or at community tables where Asian chefs put on quite a show while they prepare your food hibachi-style.
While you consider the extensive menu, we recommend that you munch on Edamame. The soybeans sprinkled with sea salt were perfectly cooked with just the right texture! For starters, we loved the Mini Beijing Duck. The shredded meat served with steamed buns. Then came an incredibly moist and tender Chicken Satay, served with an addictive lemon-grass peanut sauce. Sushi lovers will adore the Spider Roll stuffed with soft-shell crab or the Lobster Roll filled with tempura lobster. Both rolls are topped with flying fish eggs! And we've seen beauty on a sushi dish - but nothing like this that tasted so supreme! If sushi is not your thing, then by all means try the Thai Red Curry, loaded with your choice of chicken or shrimp, made to the spice of your choosing! Veggies again perfectly cooked! The Vegetable Pad Thai, topped with crushed peanuts and fresh lime juice - was without hesitation the best we had ever had! Don't save room for dessert because there isn't any! With food this sensuous, you just don't need it. Appetizers are in the $2.50 to $10 price range. Sushi and sashimi start at $1.50 per piece. Sushi rolls run from $4 to $14. Entrees from the sushi bar, wok and grill are $9 to $30. For its outrageous interior design, its very sexy vibe, and beautifully presented fusion cuisine, there's no doubt that Kon Asian Bistro deserves the Platinum Plate.
