Texas 5th Grader Talks About Being Shot

(CNN: Dallas, Texas) - At only 11 years old, Xavion Collins is now nursing a gunshot wound.

"It hurts. It hurts real, real bad," said the boy whose arm was torn by a bullet while he walked through his apartment complex Friday night.

Police said the boy was hit after officers swarmed the complex in search of 25-year-old Tobias Mackey, who was walking in a breezeway. Police said he had his hands in his pants and ignored officers orders, prompting officer Matthew Tate to open fire.

Police later admitted Mackey was not carrying a weapon and that one of the officer's stray bullets hit Xavion.

The shooting outraged many in what police call a high-crime area.
