Winds Play Havoc With Ferries to Nantucket

NANTUCKET, Mass. (AP) - Strong winds are causing problems for
ferries running between Cape Cod and Nantucket.

The Steamship Authority says its 8 a.m. ferry from Hyannis was
canceled on Thursday because of what it described as "extreme
weather conditions."

Three ferries scheduled to travel from Nantucket to Hyannis were
also canceled.

It was the third day in a row that some ferries had to be
grounded.

The island is under a wind advisory posted by the National
Weather Service through 2 p.m. Thursday. The forecast calls for
winds of 25-35 mph with gusts of 45 mph.

A gale warning is also in effect until 4 p.m. for ocean waters
off Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
