Seasonable Temperatures Give Way to Showers; Windswept Rain Ahead for Marathon Monday

Beautiful weather and seasonable temperatures have been a welcome sight today, but temperatures will give way to thickening clouds and arriving showers for the evening into the first half of the overnight as another disturbance moves across New England.

In our recent pattern, each time a temperature change is ongoing and a disturbance moves through, a period of clouds and showers tend to result, and this evening is no exception — the change in temperature being warmer with air moving into the region from the south.

After periodic showers during the Red Sox game, skies will clear for the second half of the night and patchy fog will develop, but temperatures will stay fairly mild, setting us up for sun between clouds to drive temperatures well into the 60s and even to 70 degrees in some of southern New England on Friday.

With the air still changing, northern New England won’t be quite as warm and we all have the chance for a few sprinkles and showers, particularly during the afternoon.

This weekend, an epic battle between cold and warm sets up right over us: Canadian cold will strengthen while warmth begrudgingly gives way. This should mean a fantastic spread in temperature Saturday midday, from 20s in far northern Maine to 70s in far southern Connecticut, with a cooling northeast wind tending to take over in eastern New England by afternoon.

The chilly air will be well in place Sunday as rain and mixed snow showers move in, preceding a windswept rain for Marathon Monday. With temperatures in the 40s and 50s, runners should start thinking about keeping the body temperature up during the race.
