Mass. House Approves Transportation Finance Plan

(NECN) - Massachusetts House lawmakers approved a transportation finance plan, which calls for $500-million in new taxes.

It raises the gas tax by three cents a gallon and the cigarette tax by a dollar a pack.

Governor Deval Patrick says he'll veto the bill if it reaches him because he wants more tax money to pay for transportation projects.

The bill did not pass with enough support to override his threatened veto.

The Senate could take up the bill later this week.
