Clinton in Mass. for Fundraiser, Substance Abuse Forum

The presidential hopeful will be joined Thursday by fellow Democrats - Boston Mayor Martin Walsh and Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey

Hillary Clinton was in Boston Thursday to participate in a substance abuse forum, where she praised the work of Mayor Marty Walsh and Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey and promised to make the problem a priority.

"I want substance abuse put on the same level as any other challenge to our mental or physical health," the Democratic presidential candidate said.

But for Clinton, this Massachusetts visit was just as much about raising money – she had fundraisers in Holyoke, Boston and Belmont, raising tens of thousands of dollars for her campaign.

It's money she needs on this first day of a new funding quarter, as we learned her closest Democratic challenger, Bernie Sanders, the leader in early primary states, raised almost $25 million, mostly from small, online donations, during the quarter that just ended.

That is just $2 million less than Clinton raised – an indication of Clinton's vulnerability going forward.

It's a potentially pivotal time for Clinton as she waits to hear if Vice President Joe Biden will get into the race, prepares for the first Democratic debate Oct. 13 and continues to combat the daily drip drip of information regarding her private email account.

The most recent news is that hackers linked to Russia sent at least five emails to Clinton in 2011, disguised as speeding tickets, which, if she had opened, could have let hackers in.
