State Secretary William Galvin is launching an internal review following a report that more than a dozen of his employees filed campaign paperwork on his behalf on weekdays or during normal business -- a potential violation of ethics rules.

The Democrat told The Boston Globe Thursday that he's asking the director of his Securities Division, Bryan Lantagne, to conduct a review of the 13 employees.

The Globe on Wednesday reported several instances in which Galvin employees visited local clerk's offices to file nomination papers on behalf of Galvin's campaign while drawing a regular day of public pay.

Galvin, facing a primary fight in September, said he did not ask any employees to perform the campaign work.

Galvin's Democratic challenger, Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim, has called for an independent probe.
