Protesters Plan New Year's Eve Demonstration in Boston

An activist group called "First Night Against Police Violence" plans to hold a "die-in" protesting recent police killings during the city's celebrations.

Activists are planning to protest recent police killings during Boston's New Year's Eve celebration.

The Boston Globe reports that the group "First Night Against Police Violence" plans to hold a "die-in" Dec. 31 in Copley Square at 5 p.m. Organizers hope at least 100 people will participate in the demonstration, in which activists lie down in the street pretending to be dead.

Similar protests have occurred in Boston and other cities in response to recent decisions by grand juries in Ferguson, Mo., and Staten Island, New York not to charge white police officers in the deaths of two unarmed black men.

Copley Square is near where many First Night events will take place. The annual festival of ice sculptures, music, and fireworks draws thousands of New Years' revelers downtown.
