Sen. Warren Says 2016 Democratic Primary Was Rigged in Favor of Hillary Clinton

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren said she thinks the 2016 Democratic primary was rigged in favor of Hillary Clinton.

Warren made the comments in an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper on Thursday after former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile published excerpts of her new book in Politico.

Brazile said Thursday in an excerpt from her book that she found "proof" that the 2016 Democratic primary was rigged in Clinton's favor, through a fundraising agreement that Clinton would raise money for the DNC and "control the party's finances, strategy, and all the money raised."

"This is a real problem," Warren told CNN. "But what we’ve got to do as Democrats now is we’ve got to hold this party accountable."

Tapper asked Warren if she thought the DNC was rigged and she simply said, "Yes."

Warren, a Democrat, also said she has spoken with the new DNC chairman, Tom Perez, and said he has to make people who are liberal and centralist feel comfortable.

President Donald Trump tweeted about Warren's interview on Friday morning, referring to her as "Pocahontas," a derogatory nickname he used during his presidential campaign regarding Warren's claims about being part Native American.

"Pocahontas just stated that the Democrats, lead by the legendary Crooked Hillary Clinton, rigged the Primaries! Lets go FBI & Justice Dept."

Warren responded to Trump's tweet, criticizing the president for changing the subject from the ongoing investigation into his own campaign.

"The DNC shouldn't play favorites. But that's a whole lot different from illegally conspiring with Russia. The FBI knows the difference," she said. "Slurs, lies & trash talk won't stop the FBI from doing its job. This isn't a dictatorship. It's our democracy. And it's stronger than you."
