Vermont Lt. Gov. Scott to Seek GOP Nomination for Governor

The field of candidates seeking to become Vermont's next governor is growing.

Lt. Gov. Phil Scott told WPTZ that he plans to send an email to supporters on Tuesday announcing his campaign for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, with a traditional campaign kick-off in November.

Gov. Peter Shumlin, a Democrat, said in June that he wouldn't be seeking a third two-year term.

Since then, Republican businessman Bruce Lisman and two Democrats - House Speaker Shap Smith and former lawmaker Matt Dunne - have announced their campaigns.
