Broadside: Boomers and Millennials in the Workplace

(NECN) - The book "You Raised Us - Now Work With Us: Millennials, Career Success, and Building Strong Workplace Teams" may change the way you think about the young person sitting at the desk across from yours.

Author Lauren Stiller Rikleen says the problem she tries to address in her book is the disconnect between generations.

"One of the problems is we misread as entitlement as their self-confidence. We forget that we Baby Boomers raised these kids to be self-confident, go out in the world, succeed, 'be your own person,' to speak up, and then they get into the workplace and they exhibit those behaviors and they drive all the parents crazy," Rikleen says.

Rikleen says millennials do want to work hard and are willing to put in the long hours, but they also feel the need to have a life outside of work.

"They're trying to be a complete person while at the same time being successful," she says.
