Broadside: Casino Billionaire Takes Pass

(NECN) - Casino magnate Sheldon Adelson announced he is no longer interested in developing a casino in Massachusetts.

Adelson, who went from humble roots in Dorchester and is now the owner of Las Vegas Sands Corporation, and the operator of the world's most profitable casino in Macau, lobbied in person for a casino-enabling bill in Massachusetts last year; however, he is no longer interested in building a casino, saying, "It didn't synch with our business model," in the words of his spokesman.

State lawmakers Dan Winslow, a Republican from Norfolk, and Bill Straus, a Democrat from Mattapoisett, both voted "yes" on the casino bill, and have been keeping a close eye on the progress of opening the state up to bids.
