Maine Congressman Bruce Poliquin to Introduce ‘No Welfare for Terrorists' Bill in Congress

A congressman from Maine is proposing a bill to fix an issue he admits hasn't been a problem yet: terrorists receiving welfare benefits.

Rep. Bruce Poliquin is submitting a bill called "No Welfare for Terrorists."

He says it would close a loophole that allows someone convicted of aiding a terrorist to receive food stamps after serving prison sentences.

Poliquin points to people arrested for destroying evidence and lying to investigators in the Boston Marathon bombings as examples.

He admits there are no known cases of terrorists, or accomplices to terrorists, receiving welfare, but he wants to prevent it from happening in the future.

"We need to tighten our laws and make sure we do not aid these individuals in any way, shape or form. There should be no welfare for terrorists. Period," the Republican from Maine's second district said.

Poliquin plans to introduce the legislation next Monday.
