State Senate candidate Stuart "Toby" Pennels remains in critical condition at a Lewiston, Maine hospital with injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident last weekend.
The 55-year-old Republican from Casco is being treated at Central Maine Medical Center. He's running against Democrat Bill Diamond for Senate District 26, which includes Casco, Baldwin, Frye Island, Raymond and Standish.
Police say Pennels and two other motorcyclists were riding on Route 4 in Sandy River Plantation on Sunday afternoon when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson and tried to jump off it to avoid being hit by an oncoming pickup truck, but was partially run over.
State police say Pennels suffered major chest and shoulder injuries.
Pennels is a retired Army colonel who did three tours in Iraq. He's married with three adult children.
