It appears the New England Revolution's 5-0 loss to the Chicago Fire on Wednesday was the last straw for Brad Friedel.
The Revolution relieved Friedel of his head coach duties Thursday, naming assistant Mike Lapper the interim head coach, effective immediately.

Friedel's firing comes after a brutal 2-8-2 start to the 2019 season for the Revs, who sit in last place in the MLS' Eastern Conference and have the worst goal differential (-19) in the entire league.

Friedel, a former goalkeeper for several Premier League teams, was in his second season as New England's head coach after replacing Jay Heaps in November 2017.
He ends his Revs tenure with a 12-21-13 overall record.
