Regan Smith Sets Olympic Record in 100m Backstroke in Semifinal

While some U.S. athletes swam for gold, others were seeking to reach the finals in their events

Team USA's Regan Smith set an Olympic record with a time of 57.86 during the semifinal of the women's 100m backstroke, earning her way into the final, where she will be joined by teammate Rhyan White.

The men's 200m freestyle semifinals, in which Kieran Smith
made the final; USA's Townley Haas did not qualify.

The women's 100m breaststroke semifinals, in which Lilly King
and Lydia Jacoby of Team USA qualified for the final.

And the men's 100m backstroke semifinals, in which Ryan Murphy made the final. Team USA's Hunter Armstrong of Team USA did not qualify for the final.
