Women's 1,500M: Dutch Golden Again in Speedskating

Americans Heather Bergsma and Brittany Bowe couldn't end U.S. speedskating's medal drought

The Dutch women continued their dominance on the long track speed skating oval Monday, winning gold and bronze in the 1,500 meters after sweeping the 3,000 meters.

Ireen Wust's gold medal makes her the Netherlands' most decorated Olympian, after she won silver in the 3,000. Japan's Miho Takagi took silver and Wust's countrywoman Marrit Leenstra came in third.

U.S. speedskating's medal drought continues.

American Heather Bergsma, the discipline's world record holder, skated with Takagi in the final heat, and rocketed out of the first turn with a blistering pace that would have won her the race. But she faded in second half and finished in eighth, below fellow American Brittany Bowe, who came fifth.
