Raccoon Rescued After It Got Head Stuck in Tree

A chubby raccoon that got its head stuck in a knot in a tree in southern New Jersey is free.

A Tuckerton resident called for help after seeing the animal flailing around in the tree at the corner of Marine Street and Otis Avenue on Monday.

Officials from the Tuckerton Fire Department said the raccoon clawed at the tree for some time before humans came to his rescue.

Retired state conservation officer Lt. Wayne Tonnenson joined firefighters and used a chisel to make the hole bigger for the raccoon's head.

The animal scampered away with no apparent injuries.
