Massachusetts Faces 1st Nor'easter of the Season

Residents and visitors of Massachusetts are bracing for harsh conditions as a nor'easter descends on the day before Thanksgiving.

Residents across New England are bracing for harsh conditions as a winter storm descends on the biggest travel day of the year.

The first major winter storm of the season hit the region Wednesday morning, bringing a sloppy mixture of rain, sleet and snow. The storm is expected to intensify in the afternoon and last most of the day.

Mother Nature dealt a mixed bag of pre-Thanksgiving weather to drivers and shoppers in the Metro West area, creating a slushy mess on roads like Route 9 in Natick.

For people who still have yet to embark on their trek to grandmother’s house, the weather outside is a bit frightful.

For others excited for the start of the holiday season, they don’t mind a little preview of what’s in store for us this winter.

While areas to the south of Boston and Cape Cod are expected to get just rain, an inch to three inches of snow could fall in the Boston area. Meanwhile, forecasters predict that central and western Massachusetts could get eight to 10 inches.

The potential for heavy snow has prompted some high schools to reschedule the traditional Thanksgiving morning football games.
