The melted snow mounds in Boston are leaving bottles, plastic bags and other debris around the city.
"It is pretty nasty," said Marla Pinkey of Roxbury. "It's all in the snow, it's all in the street. It's wet, it's nasty, you know? It's not pretty."
"It's awful," said Boston City Councilor Matt O'Malley. "It's not only the quality-of-life issue, but it's public health. It's public safety."
O'Malley says the trash has to go. Monday, he will meet with city officials to find out how the cleanup process can begin.
"I take enormous pride in being a Bostonian, as I know all of us do," he said. "We want to make sure it's clean, it's ready for spring."
Mother Nature is to blame for the dirty streets, O'Malley says, but Pinkney argues that residents should still do their part.
"People could be a little bit more conscious of their neighborhood and the community to try to help pick it up a little bit," she said.

O'Malley hopes Monday's noon public hearing at City Council will gather support to get this trash off of city streets - there's no better way to welcome spring than a little spring cleaning, he explained.
"The better way to get that indomitable Boston spirit back is to make sure the streets are clean and safe, and working together, we'll do that."
