Strong Winds Cause Damage Across New England

(NECN: John Moroney) – Wild and windy weather caused problems throughout much of New England Friday, toppling trees, damaging homes and making for a tough morning commute.

In Milton, Mass., one tree fell right into a house. There was some damage but thankfully it wasn’t serious. Crews were cleaning up Friday afternoon.

The homeowner was home at the time when the large limb came crashing through the front window.

The tree has stood outside Jack Curran’s home for more than 50 years, but during strong winds Friday, a large limb snapped off while the retired Boston firefighter sat quietly in the front porch on the second floor.

A crane was brought in to lift the tree off the home and remove it. The 84-year-old Curran said he was frightened but not injured during the incident, even as his Grafton area neighbors came to see the damage and more importantly to see if he was okay.

There were strong winds all over New England Friday morning, knocking down trees, sparking fires and tossing around outdoor furniture.

Back on Grafton Avenue, Curran wishes he had removed the tree years ago.

Curran says in all his years living there, he hasn’t had to touch his home insurance policy until now.
