Heavy Slug of Rain to End Our Week

A splendid day has unfolded across New England Thursday in advance of yet another shot of spring rain that will add to rainfall totals in an April already responsible for dropping over 130% of our normal rain for a typically wet month.

Ahead of the incoming rain for Friday, pollen counts are soaring throughout the six-state region as trees and vegetation continue to bloom and blossom. The storm system set to impact New England brought severe weather to the Lower Mississippi River Delta Thursday morning and will break into pieces through Friday night.

Each piece that moves through the sky of New England is touching off new rounds of showers. The first showers will develop from west to east Friday morning, lasting into early afternoon before a lull. Drizzle and sprinkles will likely appear in southern New England in the middle afternoon through early evening, with continuing periodic showers in central and northern New England.

Friday night is when the heaviest slug of rain arrives with embedded thunder, continuing through the night into early Saturday morning before departing north and east.

Total rainfall amounts should land around one inch in southern New England and closer to two inches north before drier air on a busy west wind arrives by mid-morning Saturday. This will salvage not only the remainder of the day, but likely the first half to two-thirds of Sunday, as well.

By that point, the next quick-moving disturbance will be pushing into our region from the west, triggering new showers late

Sunday through the night. We continue to see next week as a classic New England spring pattern – repetitive, rather quick-moving disturbances capable of producing showers every day or two with seasonable temperatures somewhere either side of 60 degrees in our exclusive First Alert 10-day forecast.
