Back to Rain For Now

Temperatures did make 70° in spots but are now cooling back to the 60s as the clouds thicken and rain increases

    Rain Will Follow Increased Clouds

Rest of Sunday: Clouds increase, late rain. Highs around 70. Sunday Night: Showers, lows in the 40s and 50s. Monday: Cloudy with showers. Highs in the 50s and 60s. (Published Sunday, June 4, 2017)

It was fun to have a few hours of sunshine early Sunday morning but then clouds raced in and now rain is here for our late afternoon and sunset. Temperatures did make 70° in spots but are now cooling back to the 60s as the clouds thicken and rain increases.

A couple of things going on the atmosphere, first another upper-level low pressure system coming over the Great Lakes, and also a stalled front with moisture coming out of the Gulf of Mexico riding toward New England.

This dual weather complex will take at least two or three days to loosen up and move out.

Though it may not be raining some of the time, it should be gray with patchy showers, fog, and drizzle most of our Monday and Tuesday.

The strongest low pressure system should miss Nantucket to the south, with the heaviest rain staying offshore. But wind from the east and northeast will increase to 20-40 mph with some coastal erosion possible at times of high tide.

Temperatures on Monday and Tuesday will be mostly in the 50s and lower 60s, but may actually cool into the 40s for a timeTuesday afternoon when the strongest wind comes in from the ocean.

The storms at sea should move a little farther offshore by Thursday and Friday, however the upper level low pressure system will still be lingering, so we will return to that sun and showers type weather (more rainbows!) for the second half of the week. Temperatures will gradually moderate back to the 60s and the 70s by the weekend. And then we may actually have a Bermuda high-pressure system setting up for next week with potential 80° or warmer by next Monday and Tuesday. The weather has to turn around at some point.
