Gloomy, Foggy to Start But Much Better Weather Sunday Following Nor'easter

Mist and drizzle this morning

The nor’easter that hit Saturday felt more like December than October. Thunder snow was reported in New Hampshire and Maine. We are open for skiing at four resorts, which has never happened before Halloween that we can recall. The amount of wind damage spread across all six states was worthy of a powerful nor’easter that we often see during the winter.

In addition, coastal flooding was reported from Connecticut to Maine, even in the Connecticut River there was a one- to three-foot storm surge inland to Essex, Connecticut and farther. Rainfall exceeded two inches in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts, with wind gusts close to 65 mph. And even near the station in Newton, Massachusetts, some utility poles were knocked sideways with powerful wind as the last of the rain moved through during the evening. Now, that storm system moves in to Canada and we have drier air coming in from the south.

The temperature actually warmed overnight, 50s to start off our Sunday in southern New England. With a good amount of sunshine, some parts of southern New England may make it to 60 degrees while a lot of clouds and a few showers continue in the north.

A fast-moving weather system will bring a period of rain, or showers, to central and southern New England Monday. The temperature will be in the lower 50s.

It looks brisk and bright for Tuesday, 40s north and 50s south.

A front stretching from Canada to Texas will bring clouds back on Wednesday, along with warmer air. High temperatures will be close to 60 degrees. But this front will stall with a chance of showers off and on later Wednesday into the end of the week.
