Weekend Complicated by Upcoming Storm Possibility

The possibility of an upcoming storm is making the forecast for this weekend complicated with a mix of showers and sunshine

What to Know

  • TODAY: Blue skies, plenty of sunshine.
  • TOMORROW: Mix of sunshine and scattered showers in some areas.
  • LOOKING AHEAD: Thunderstorms are possible as heat is expected to increase early next week.

Friday starts off in the comfortable 50s and low 60s south and the 50s and some upper 40s well north.

With a blue sky early morning, fair-weather clouds will build and yield a scattered shower, too.

There is just enough instability in the atmosphere, along with a sea-breeze front. A sea-breeze front is when a light wind off the ocean meets up with a relatively calm wind from the west inland about 20 or 30 miles.

Any showers should be brief and light.

It's a beautiful day overall, with a high temperature near 80 degrees. It will be a little cooler at the shore and a little warmer in the Connecticut River Valley and points west.

The weekend becomes a little bit more complicated.

At sea well to our east, there may be another weak tropical system trying to develop. To our north, there is a weak warm front, and to our west there is a weak cold front.

This means a couple of things: a chance of a shower or thunderstorm west and north tomorrow and a mixture of sun and clouds with temperatures in the 80s inland. There may be a locally onshore flow, but we should be in the 70s near the beach. And there may be some coastal fog developing late in the day and at night.

A weak boundary may trigger a few more showers or thunderstorms Sunday, but we think overall the day features more sun and clouds. That same sunshine will turn more humid with a high temperature in the 80s inland, perhaps cooler at the beaches. It does look like a mostly dry weekend for most of us, though.

And beach weather looks pretty good too, as long as we can get rid of any nighttime fog.

Monday and Tuesday should be warm to hot, with sunshine and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon.

High temperatures will be close to 90 degrees. There's a better chance for a more significant spread of rain and thunder later Tuesday into Wednesday.
