Cloud Coverage to Increase, Showers for Some Spots

Rain Exiting East, Sunny Conditions for Some

Today (Tuesday): Sun to building clouds, a few PM showers. Highs 75 to 80. Overnight Tuesday Night: Clearing. Lows around 50. Wednesday: Sunny. Highs around 70. (Published Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019)

The weather is a little bit more seasonable Tuesday. Many spots in southern New England topped 90 degrees Monday, making it one of the hottest starts to Autumn in our lifetime.

Temperatures remain fairly mild this morning, too, with places like Boston only cooling to about 70 degrees. That’s equivalent to our climatological average high temperature for this time of year.

With a good deal of sunshine in southern New England, a few spots will get to 75 to 80 degrees during the afternoon. But clouds ultimately will fill the sky for most with a few showers and high temperatures in the mid-70s. It’s less humid with wind from the west and northwest 10 to 20 mph.

In far northern Vermont, northern New Hampshire, and much of central and northern Maine, it is it gray and chilly day with periods of rain, and a high temperature in the 60s. It was a cold front that brought a half to one inch or rain in showers and thunder Monday night. Not everyone picked up much rain, and the heaviest amounts have been to the north.

Now, it’s an upper level low pressure system crossing New England with instability showers and rain.

High pressure builds off to our south Wednesday with a more seasonable day and a high temperature in the upper 60s to mid-70s with partly to mostly sunny skies. Another front gets close on Thursday bringing thicker clouds and a chance of showers and a thunderstorm. It will also be warmer with a high temperature near 80 degrees again.

Cooler and dry weather will likely come in Friday, then the weekend features another weather front that may stall over New England. It’s really tough to say when and how much, but it looks like a little rain should come through with the temperatures on the warmer side Saturday, maybe in the 80s, if the front keeps moving, cooling and drier Sunday.
