Cloudy with Chances of Rain Give Way to Halloween Sunshine

The system that brought a chilly, blustery, and soggy Friday, has moved off the New England coast.

As one system departs, another system takes its place. The system that brought a chilly, blustery, and soggy Friday, has moved off the New England coast, so it’s not quite as breezy to start off our Saturday, however the next low pressure system has made its presence known in northern New England, bringing more rain to northern VT, NH, AND ME for most of our Saturday. A few of the rain bands even extended as far south as Central MA in the early morning hours, but those have subsided. Throughout our Saturday, most of the rain will remain in northern New England, while heavy cloud cover will stick around southern New England.

At least this time around, this system is not as strong as the last, as snow will remain well north (into Canada) and will move out as early as tonight. Just a couple of lingering showers are expected into northern Maine and along the coastline. The cloud cover will stick around for Sunday with a chance for another passing shower, but this time into southern New England. A shower cannot be ruled out as a cold front associated with the system that is bringing showers to northern New England today, drapes across southern New England Sunday evening. Sunday will not be a washout, but similar to Saturday, the clouds will hold on for one more day.

High pressure then moves in just in time for Halloween, but do not fret. This will allow for more sunshine than clouds for Monday, but it will be chilly by the time trick-or-treaters are out and about. After high temperatures stretch into the lower 50s by day, by nightfall, temperatures will quickly drop into the 40s, so make sure the little ghouls, goblins, pirates, witches, pumpkins are all bundled up.

With high temperatures into the low 50s for Halloween is right around normal for this time of the year.  For the Boston-area, the warmest Halloween on record was 81° set back in 1946 with the coldest Halloween on record coming in at 27° in 1904.

The month of November brings back the warmth with a midweek warm-up.  We’re talking highs back into the mid 60s by Wednesday. It’s not unheard of, but certainly unseasonably warm for this time of year in New England.
