Tonight: Clear and very cold. -15 to 5 above north. -5 to 5 south. Tomorrow: Partly sunny. Teens north, low 20s south. Tuesday: Clouding over with snow/mix/showers late day. 20s and 30s. (Published Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017)

After a pretty morning, pretty busy cleaning up a foot of new snow south of Boston, the sun is mixing with clouds and scattered snow showers are crossing New England this afternoon.

In most cases just a flake or two comes from the sky, but in a few cases of spotty snow shower or snow squall can briefly reduce visibility and cause icy roads. It is a bit of an arctic cold front going by.

Behind the snow showers our sky clears right out this evening with a bright moon, and temperatures plummeting to near 0° by early on Monday morning.

With sunshine tomorrow, high temperatures will get up to about 20° north and into the low and mid 20s south late in the day.

Clouds race in tomorrow night, another cold one with low temperature in the single numbers to teens.

As warmer air arrives on Tuesday it may be preceded by a quick burst of snow, changing to rain in southern New England. The mountains northern mountains may see a few inches of snow. By Tuesday afternoon, the temperature will warm into the 30s, as our weekly thaw arrives. The same pattern seems to happen every Tuesday lately.

Warmer weather is here for Wednesday and Thursday with a high temperature in the 40s to lower 50s, along with many clouds and the threat for rain showers, mixed with snow in the mountains.

Late in the week a new batch of cold air will be getting close, too close really to say exactly when it comes in, but it may come with more rain and/or snow showers later Friday into Saturday.

Next weekend does turn colder with the possibility for more snow, and/or wintry mix.
