Icy-cold temperatures continue to take hold in New England for the next couple of days. Average highs across southern New England are in the low 40s, while northern New England average highs are in the upper 30s this time of the year.
We easily stay 10-20 degrees below normal until our airmass modifies Friday. Until then, a west/northwest breeze picks up a tad tonight and tomorrow, creating wind chills below zero tonight and single digits tomorrow afternoon.
Actual lows will be in the single digits to teens, and highs on Wednesday will be stuck in the 20s. A shortwave will bring in a chance for clouds and some snow squalls Wednesday afternoon. Expect quick accumulation with these as they will be very hit-or-miss. We expect mostly dry weather again Thursday with high temperatures in the 20s.
A weak area of low pressure passes south of us Friday night into Saturday. We could briefly have a couple of flurries pass by the south coast, but otherwise, we keep it dry and milder temperatures return over the weekend. Highs will be in the low 40s Sunday, rising to the upper 40s Monday as a warm front lifts into the northeast.
An area of low pressure stays northwest of us, but some colder air will remain as the precipitation moves in at first Sunday afternoon, so we could get a wintry mix north before switching to rain.
It will likely be an all rain event across southern New England Sunday into early Monday. Temperatures stay around our normal highs for next week, with a couple of waves of milder air. It will be dry late Monday through Wednesday, then the forecast becomes uncertain as a larger wave of low pressure moves through the northeast towards the end of the 10-day.
